The origins
Established on March 4, 1982 SiOR srl began operating from its headquarters in via Cairoli 5 in Varese.
Until then, "electronic brains" had been the property of universities and big companies, in their imposing data processing centers.
Since the early 1980s, the use of PCs and minisystems has been spreading in Italy too.
SiOR was born from the contribution of experiences gained in industrial companies in the areas of information technology and business organization.
One of the founders, then a young go-getter, and still today, with completely white hair, at the helm of the company as President, came from the roles of EDP Manager held in Sirti and Director of Information Systems and Organization held in the Mazzucchelli group of Castiglione Olona for a total of 12 years.
Together with him, a small group of young graduates, in a 3-room office, with a mini-system for program development and testing.
And the adventure began.

1982-1987
The first project consisted of the creation of the Information System of a plastics company from A to Z: feasibility study, choice and sizing of the computer, definition and analysis of the subsystems, creation and testing of the programs, start-up assistance.

Several projects followed for the manufacturing sector, the insurance agencies of a nationally important company, the distribution sector, tax collection agencies, nursing homes.
The strong points were the S/34, DPS/6 minisystems and the M/20 personal computer.
The company was growing, the space had doubled, the workforce reached 15 units, the turnover exceeded 1.5 billion lire.

1988-1990
The market success of the IBM S/38, the progenitor of the AS/400 family that would follow it, led SiOR to invest in the automatic converters needed to make any software compatible with the new platform.
The constant growth of the staff made the office in Via Cairoli inadequate and the company decided to purchase its own headquarters; a building to be renovated in Viale Borri was identified and the work began.
The move took place in the spring of 1990.

1991-1994
With the wide range of converters we were able to migrate the most popular platforms in Italy:
IBM 43xx, BULL, SIEMENS, UNISYS, NIXDORF.
The acquisition of the client SIRTI dates back to the early 90s, for which we developed application software on the IBM 43xx system, and then transformed the relationship into an Application Management service that continues to this day.
In the meantime, the "rehosting" and "rightsizing" had begun.
The reasons for the success of the numerous migration projects to AS/400 were twofold:
Converters got "native" software without emulators
Our natural allies in the negotiations were the IBM salesmen who operated on the competition and the IBM agents
The good outcome of the project often led the customer to establish a continuous relationship with SiOR for new developments. These relationships lasted for years and in some cases, such as FIDITALIA, ESSECO, RENO DE MEDICI, JANNELLI E VOLPI, BOTTEGA VERDE are still active.
The acquisition of the client SIRTI dates back to the early 90s, for which we developed application software on the IBM 43xx system, and then transformed the relationship into an Application Management service that continues to this day.

1995-2000
We have created projects both directly and in integration with IBM, which provided the infrastructure. In some cases we have licensed the converters to other software houses; a particular case was the converter from the Nixdorf 8870, acquired under license from IBM Corporation, which distributed it in twelve European countries, in USA and in Brazil, where we were actively involved. The success of these projects led us to create converters towards other target platforms: Unix, Linux, PC Networks systems. For these environments it was also necessary to create a series of basic packages such as monitors, video managers, print managers, sort.

2001-2010
Migration projects continued successfully, some of them with IBM as "System Integrator": two projects FIAT, ASSICURAZIONI GENERALI, EURONOVA, BAULI, CEDECRA.
The application development area has expanded with the acquisition of important customers such as WHIRPOOL, STAR, LOVABLE, EMI MUSIC, GEMEAZ, AZELIS, COIM, ILPEA, RPC COBEL PLAST and several others.
We have entered the world of ERP for the integrated management of medium-sized companies such as DIMONTONATE FLOCCATI, CORSICA FERRIES, BC-MC, MEDILAND, TXT E-SOLUTION, obtaining the UNI EN ISO 9002 1994 quality certification for this sector.
We have created FOLLOW-UP, a package for the management and control of production that detects the progress data of the systems to which it is connected and transfers them to the management system with which it is integrated.

2011-2020
The "modernization" of application software has continued to fascinate us.
For the AS/400 within the already widespread WEBGATE, produced by EDM spa and distributed by VGSoft srl, we created the adapter for the Cobol programs, which until then had not been covered by the package. Several software houses have adapted their applications using this tool which has also been used by end users for their custom-developed software. We still provide maintenance and consultancy on this matter today.
In the ERP sector we have chosen to specialize in Dynamics AX from Microsoft, creating projects for larger companies than in the past, both directly and by collaborating with various System Integrators; the number of resources dedicated to these activities has gradually grown to reach the ten units currently operating.
At the beginning of the decade, the first tablets arrived on the market and smartphones continued to evolve; the use of these tools in the corporate environment led us to invest in our first App, which took the name of Ne.M.O. (New Market Operator) and to support sales agents in the sales process
The next step was a partnership with a communications and image structure, in order to propose in a single and integrated activity the marketing and sales process with innovative products: Web, Apps, motion graphics, 2D and 3D animation, video editing.
Finally, we have developed the Application Management service, both for big companies and medium-sized structures.

We moved the operational headquarters to Malnate and introduced "smart working". This managerial choice is based on flexibility and autonomy, in the face of complete staff responsibility for the objectives to be achieved.
The new way of working respects the limits set for daily and weekly hours, but increases the free time of collaborators, eliminating the time and stress of travel.
Excluding Administration and Secretariat, almost all employees have chosen "agile" work, with a reduction in requests for leave and an increase in productivity.
We have created SiTime, a Web App that allows the detection of staff performance by job / project / cost center; it is integrated with the payroll system, with customer invoicing and with management control.
